AIR SAMPLERS

Description

Research International manufactures a complete line of air samplers and concentrators to collect airborne pathogens, particulates, bacteria and spores. All Air Samplers:

SASS 2300 WETTED-WALL AIR SAMPLER

The SASS®2300 delivers all the performance you need in a portable aerosol particle collection system. Extremely long sampling protocols of up to several days are supported and sample fluid volume is maintained constant over the entire collection period, independent of ambient air temperature or relative humidity, providing unsurpassed monitoring capabilities in environments ranging from farmyards to hospitals to battlefields. Best of all, single or multiple units can be controlled wirelessly and users can download their own customized sampling protocols into the units.

In early 2020, the SASS 2300 was used in a widely cited study of Coronavirus in a Wuhan hospital. See the complete article here. The SASS 2300 Air Sampler extracts and transfers airborne pathogens, particulates, bacteria and spores from sampled air to small water volume for analysis. It employs a patented wetted-wall aerosol collection method that has received U.S. Department of Homeland Security Certification under the U.S. Safety Act of 2002.

Product Features:

  • Collection cycles may be many hours in length
  • Liquid sample unaffected by ambient conditions
  • Choose your own automated protocols
  • Onboard automated sample vial filling
  • Wireless operation and control option
  • Convenient threaded inlet and outlet ports
  • Long-life primary and rechargeable batteries
  • Portable: Impact- and water-resistant case.

SASS® 2400 LOW-VOLUME, WETTED-WALL AIR SAMPLER

The SASS® 2400 LV air sampler is the smallest wetted-wall aerosol particle collection system. It is designed to operate with a much lower air flow and fluid sample volume than the SASS 2300, while still employing the highly successful wetted wall aerosol collection strategy that has received U.S. Department of Homeland Security Certification under the U.S. Safety Act of 2002.

The cyclone used in the SASS 2400 operates at a 40 LPM air processing rate and requires only 1 ml of fluid, whereas the larger SASS 2300 processes 325 LPM of air and requires 4 to 5 ml of sample fluid. Water loss through evaporation is correspondingly reduced. Makeup water sources will last longer, or can be reduced in size.

Extremely long collection periods continue to be a product highlight – sample fluid is maintained at a constant amount independent of collection time, ambient air temperature, or relative humidity, providing unsurpassed monitoring capabilities in environments ranging from farmyards to hospitals to battlefields.

Product Features:

  • 40 LPM wetted wall cyclone
  • An onboard sample vial filling station
  • A water reservoir sufficient for 7 days of operation
  • Makeup water metering via onboard peristaltic pump
  • Peristaltic pump/pinch valve-based fluid sample routing
  • Impact- and water-resistant case
  • Convenient tube stub inlet and threaded outlet port
  • Firmware upgradeable/customizable via the RS-232 port
  • 30,000 hour blower.

SASS® 3010 PARTICLE EXTRACTOR

The SASS® 3010 is used to extract and transfer to a small fluid volume, aerosols captured by Research International’s electret filters (SASS 3100 dry air sampler and SASS 4100 two-stage collector). Captured particulates can be difficult to remove because induced dipole fields create a strong holding force and must be neutralized. Once particulates have been released, they must then be removed from within the fibrous filter matrix and collected in a small amount of sample fluid. These processes are efficiently performed in a matter of 1 to 2 minutes using the SASS 3010 Particle Extractor.

Product Features:

  • Fast and efficient extraction from “electret” filters.
  • Extraction efficiencies are typically in the range of 60 to 80%.

SASS® 4000 AEROSOL CONCENTRATOR

The SASS® 4000 is a highly efficient, high-volume aerosol concentration device. Many applications require the collection and analysis of aerosol particles, ranging from environmental air sampling, counter-terrorism to epidemiology, medicine, and agriculture. These applications typically involve the monitoring or collection of airborne plant, animal or human pathogens. But aerosol sample analysis is frequently plagued by three problems:

  • The targeted pathogen is present at a very low concentration;
  • The collection process involves too small an air sample to be statistically valid; and/or
  • Available bioassay methods are not sensitive enough.

In response to these issues, Research International is now offering the SASS 4000, the highest-capacity portable aerosol preconcentrator in production.

Product Features:

  • No moving parts, other than the primary fan.
  • Maintenance is minimal.
  • The operating temperature range is very wide.
  • The structure is comparatively clog resistant.
  • Sampled air volume is maximized, improving collection statistics.

SASS® 4100 TWO-STAGE AEROSOL COLLECTOR

The SASS® 4100 (patent pending) is a highly efficient, two-stage filter-based aerosol collection device. Many applications require the collection and analysis of aerosol particles, ranging from environmental air sampling and counter-terrorism to epidemiology, medicine, and agriculture. These applications typically involve the monitoring or collection of airborne plant, animal or human pathogens. But aerosol sample analysis is frequently plagued by three problems:

  • The targeted pathogen is present at a very low concentration;
  • The collection process involves too small an air sample to be statistically valid; and/or
  • Available bioassay methods are not sensitive enough.

In response to these issues, Research International is now offering the SASS 4100, the highest-capacity portable aerosol dry collector in production.

Product Features:

  • No moving parts, other than the primary fan.
  • Maintenance is minimal.
  • Wide operating temperature range.
  • Structure is comparatively clog resistant.
  • Sampled air volume is maximized, improving collection statistics.
  • It is an ultra-high capacity stand-alone dry sampler when used with RI’s proprietary electret filters.

SASS® 4200 VEHICLE-MOUNT AEROSOL CONCENTRATOR

The SASS® 4200 Vehicle-Mount Aerosol Concentrator is a highly efficient, high-volume aerosol concentration device designed for vehicular applications. A blower-driven concentration device inside the unit pulls air in at a rate of about 4000 LPM (forward vehicle motion is not necessary for proper operation). Particulates in the sampled air are transferred to a low flow-rate secondary loop that can be routed to a location inside the vehicle. The unit is compatible with a wide variety of small portable samplers or bioanalyzers such as the SASS 2300, SASS 3100, or BioHawk.

Product Features:

  • Roof mount
  • Integrated aerosol concentrate inlet and outlet ports
  • No moving parts, other than the primary fan
  • Military-style electrical connector for power
  • Minimal maintenance
  • Wide operating temperature
  • Clog resistant.
