Visual Analysis of Drugs
Description
Protzek’s superior visual screening tests offer highest reliability and fully customizable analyte panels. Adjustable to various, customer-specific cut-offs and certified according to all major QC norms, the test results show excellent correlation with advanced technologies.
Single Urine Tests
Single urine tests are available in the form of immersion strip tests and cassette tests for different analytes and in various analyte combinations.
The advantage of urine is that it may be collected easily, non-invasively, in reasonably large quantities and used directly for analysis, without further preparation. However, analytes are not detectable in urine directly after consumption. It will take a minimum of six to eight hours after consumption for a urine test to be performed successfully, whereas drugs may already be found in the blood. On the other hand, a positive result in urine does not necessarily indicate recent consumption. Urine is, therefore, much better suited for monitoring abstinence than blood.
Cannabis is a special case: regular cannabis use, e.g. several joints per week, may increase the detection time in urine up to 60-70 days.
To complement blood testing, an additional urine screening provides a more comprehensive evaluation of results.
Advantages of urinary tests :
- Urine is easy to collect, without intrusive intervention and may be used directly for analysis without further preparation;
- Cost-efficient;
- Capable of detecting most narcotics;
- Results available in a few minutes.
Multi Urine Tests
The multi urine tests are available both as immersion tests and plate tests, with different analyte configurations. The available combinations are adapted to the most common requirements but may be easily modified.
Urine contains the residues of the drugs consumed, may be collected easily and used without any preparation. Depending on the frequency and type of use (e.g. once orally), some hours may pass before a drug is detectable in sufficient quantity in the urine collected, especially if the bladder already contains (drug-free) urine. Urine provides a relatively long window of detection and is, therefore, ideally suited for the monitoring of abstinence. The retention times of drugs and their metabolites in the body is determined by the respective rate of degradation and subsequent excretion. Both are influenced by an individual’s drug habit, the amount of drug or drugs he or she has consumed, the way of consumption, and body weight.
In any case, the concentration of drug excretions in the urine is always influenced by the body’s water reserves. It is not uncommon for people who are asked to provide a urine sample to intentionally drink copious amounts of liquids if they have something to hide. The creatinine content shows whether urine contains a lot or little water. Our Creatinine Screening Test has been developed to help detect urine manipulation by internal or external urine dilution.
Oral Fluid Tests
Protzek’s superior oral fluid tests are able to simultaneously screen for up to eight drugs, including the five most commonly used: cocaine, heroin, amphetamines, ecstasy, and cannabinoids.
Detection time:
- Cannabis detection time in saliva: the active ingredient in cannabis, THC, cannot be detected more than 4-6 hours after use, regardless of the test used.
- Cocaine, heroin, amphetamines, and ecstasy may be detected 24 to 48 hours after the last dose. This may vary depending on the individual’s metabolism as well as on the quantity and quality of the drug used.
Advantages:
- Convenient, non-invasive and easy to use;
- Almost impossible to manipulate;
- May be used anywhere, anytime.
Disadvantages:
- Screening should be performed within a very short time interval after consumption (ideally in the first hours, maximum 4 to 6 hours);
- Cannabis consumption may inhibit salivary secretion;
- THC (active ingredient of cannabis) contained in saliva may be negated by other substances, leading to a negative screening even if consumption has occurred.
Check24
Check24 is twin-test system optimized for the detection of cannabinoids in urine.
With two levels of THC detection (50 ng/ml and 150 ng/ml), this test provides an indication of the amount of THC detected. Check24 uses two cut-offs to enable a better differentiation between recent and earlier consumption.
Check24 can therefore reduce the number of false positives (positive results in urine but negative results in blood), thus reducing the time and financial investment in confirmatory tests.

CUP Test
The combination of urine cup and test strips is a safe, clean and hygienic alternative to the conventional collection cups, making urine transfer unnecessary and providing maximum hygiene for the user. The re-closable cup is equipped with integrated temperature strips to detect potential manipulation of the urine. The test is ready to be evaluated after 3 minutes.
